Why a Facebook Page Isn't a Website (And What That's Actually Costing You)
A lot of local service businesses run entirely on a Facebook Page and figure that's close enough to a website. It isn't โ and the gap shows up in specific, fixable ways.
You don't own the platform
A Facebook Page lives inside Facebook's rules, Facebook's layout, and Facebook's algorithm. If Facebook changes how Pages are ranked, restricts organic reach, or the account gets flagged for any reason, your entire online presence goes with it. A website you own doesn't have that failure point โ it's yours regardless of what any platform decides to do next.
Search engines treat them very differently
When someone searches Google for "[your service] near me," a real website with proper pages, headings, and structured content has far more to work with than a Facebook Page โ which is a single, largely unstructured URL competing against every other business's Page. A website can have a dedicated page per service, each one able to independently show up for a different search.
You can't control what's shown first
On Facebook, the visitor sees whatever Facebook decides to surface โ the most recent post, an ad, a review, in whatever order the algorithm picks. On your own website, you control the first thing a visitor sees: your strongest offer, your clearest explanation of what you do, your actual phone number front and center.
It signals something to the customer, too
Fair or not, a business with only a Facebook Page reads as smaller or less established to a lot of customers โ especially compared to competitors who show up with an actual site. A basic website with your services, real photos, and a clear way to contact you closes that gap immediately.
The fix isn't "pick one"
None of this means abandon Facebook โ it's still where a lot of local customers are, and active social content matters. The fix is having both: a website you own as the foundation, with Facebook and Instagram as channels that point back to it, not as the whole presence.
